UBER Paid the Hot Seat, Grab and UBER Must Be Taxed!

When approved by the Senate, Uber and Grab operations will be subject to large taxes as imposed on taxi and bus companies.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has already reached the Senate's proposal to legalize transport companies (TNC) such as Uber and Grab and consider them 'public utility entities'.

"We have to define that in the law because they have to give their fair share to the government also because you're making money here in our country," Gatchalian explains.

"Again, this is a new animal, it's an app for people to gather and we have to define that. In our point of view, they are public utility and you have to operate and pay the same taxes just like any other bus or taxi operators, "added the senator.

On Tuesday only released Uber's nearly half a billion pesos to return to their operations after they were suspended by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on August 14.

Uber has paid P190 million in LTFRB fines while P299 million is for compensation for drivers who have not been suspended during the suspension period.

Gatchalian admitted that he was surprised at the size of the fine imposed by the LTFRB to Uber, but the more surprising was Uber's pay, as well as the P299 million drivers compensation.

TNC's only investment is the app used in their operation because they do not own the Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS).

With every Uber and Grab driver income, this company gets a percentage.
